Kevin P. Lewellen is a free-lance artist specializing in portraiture and the creation of original oil paintings, drawings, prints, and sculptures. A prize-winning 1986 graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, America’s oldest arts school and museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mr. Lewellen was privileged to study at the Academy with the noted American painter and draftsman Arthur DeCosta. Later, from 1987 to 1994, Mr. Lewellen studied and worked privately with the renowned American sculptor, EvAngelos Frudakis. Since 1987, Mr. Lewellen has worked extensively painting museum-quality reproductions after original works by such notable artists as Charles Willson Peale, Thomas Sully, and Thomas Eakins. In addition, from Fall 1991 to Spring 2003, he participated actively as a member of the painting faculty at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where he taught classes in drawing, painting, and human anatomy in the school’s historic certificate program.

In his dual capacities as artist and educator, Mr. Lewellen has extensively researched and utilized the
materials and techniques of the classically inspired schools of drawing, painting, and sculpture, as
well as artistic anatomy, perspective drawing, and 3-D computer modeling. In November 2002, Mr.
Lewellen co-founded Schuylkill Academy of Fine Art, a non-profit corporation dedicated to preserving
the classically based fine art traditions. Through October 2008, Schuylkill Academy of Fine Art
promoted intensive disciplined study of the figurative arts, including classes and workshops taught by
Mr. Lewellen and other notable fine arts instructors.

Since 2008, Mr. Lewellen has focused primarily on portraiture. In 2012 he relocated his studio from
Philadelphia to Leelanau County, Michigan, where he continues to devote his time to the classical
figurative arts employing a variety of artistic media.
